MicroVention Introduces SOFAST: SOFIA™ Suction System for Primary Treatment of Acute Ischemic Stroke

MicroVention, Inc., a global neurovascular company and wholly owned subsidiary of Terumo Corporation, has announced the publication of the SOFAST study in the Journal of NeuroInterventional Surgery (JNIS).

This study evaluated the SOFIA™ 6 Flow Plus suction catheter for treating acute ischemic stroke due to large vessel occlusion.

Conducted across multiple centers in the US with 108 patients, the study aimed to assess the catheter's safety and efficacy in achieving revascularization.

Key findings include a median time of 12 minutes from groin puncture to clot contact and 17 minutes to recanalization.

The catheter achieved a 75% success rate (mTICI≥2b) on the first attempt, with no incidents of embolization to new areas or symptomatic intracranial bleeding within 24 hours. After 90 days, 66.7% of patients showed good functional outcomes.
